Interface topology and evolution of particle patterns on deformable drops in turbulence

The capture of neutrally buoyant, sub-Kolmogorov particles at the interface deformable drops in turbulent flow and subsequent evolution particle surface distribution are investigated. Direct numerical simulation turbulence, phase-field modelling drop dynamics Lagrangian tracking used. Particle is obtained considering excluded-volume interactions, i.e. by enforcing collisions. Particles initially dispersed carrier driven time towards jet-like fluid motions. Once captured interfacial forces, disperse on surface. Excluded-volume interactions bring into long-term trapping regions where average velocity divergence sampled zero. These correlate well with portions characterized higher-than-mean curvature, indicating that modifications tension induced presence very small will be stronger highly convex interface.
